Emily Knight

amniotic egg: produced by reptiles, birds, and other egg-laying mammals, where the embryo is developed inside of the amnion.

This picture shows an egg which is an example of an amniotic egg because it is from a chicken and has a hard, calcium based shell.

animal with a segmented body: an animal or insect know as an arthropod. Arthropods are invertebrates with jointed limbs, a segmented body, and an exoskeleton.

This pictures shows an ant that I found on my porch. This is an example of an animal with a segmented body because it has a head, thorax, and an abdomen.

anther and filament of stamen: The stamen is the male reproductive organ of the flower. The stamen includes the filament and anther. Inside of the filament you will find the anther and this is where pollen is produced.

This picture shows the anther and filament of a stamen where the flower's pollen is produced.

flower ovary: the female reproductive organ that bears premature seeds that will eventually ripen into fruit.

This shows a flower I cut in half in order to get an up close view of the ovary of the flower.

enzyme: organic catalysts that allow chemical reactions to occur in living systems.

This shows one of many household enzymes. This Oxy Clean, or detergent, has ingredients that are enzymes that work to remove stains from laundry.

epithelial tissue: occurs throughout the body while it covers the body and lines the hollow organs as well. It also assists the body in protection, absorption, and sensory reception.

This shows the epithelial tissue covering my hand.

eukaryote: organisms that contain a nucleus

This shows a bird which is an example of and organism with a nucleus, which is an eukaryote.

prokaryote: organisms that lack a nucleus. They also are usually small in size and have a very high growth rate.

This shows bacteria which is an example of a prokaryote. Although you cannot see the bacteria, you can imagine how much is on a used toothbrush.

prokaryote: organisms that lack a nucleus. They also are usually small in very small in size and have a very high growth rate.

This shows my kitchen counter top that has had prokaryotes on it many of times. Since there has been raw meat on the counter top, that means that there has been bacteria, which is a prokayrote.

pollinator: an insect or bird that carries pollen from the anther of the flower to the stigma of another flower to begin the flower's fertilization process.

This shows a bee acting as the pollinator of the flower.

  1. Good examples Emily! Keep it up! I was confused by the toothbrush example but after I read it, it made sense.
